Fearless Fatherhood Found

Finally comes a hero
mUst he continuously lay his life down?
woNdering just how and why the father
woeFully laded the broad shoulders, heart,
and Adam’s brow with expansive sorrows,
invarIably interspersed with random hopefulness
which This life would seek oft to tear down.
what’s Heroic ’bout self-sacrifice when
dreams oF glories must drop as dust gathers, and blades
forgd of Unyielded substance resist use, breakdown in battles
defending Lord, land, and lady–or is it championing
w/ weapons Formed in paradise’s furnace, fit for
purpose of mAster’s making, yielding results in worlds
here & everafTer, which withstand tests of time,
of fire, & of Heartache, keeping hope alive and bravery
periodically frEely reborn in fires of tribulation–
testing faith & Reason & hope & very soul–how
is it man of flesH, clay, dust, and potter’s wheel could
surrender heart, sOul, mind, and strength to
that greater good fOrce, forged for king’s glory,
revealing those kingDom purposes, casting aside personal desires and
casting off weights oF this world that easily beset
so that races run in fReedom and abandon have
bought sweetest victoriEs ever gained in this life
and for the one that’s yEt to come, as the willingly
surrendering soldier takeS up his cross, bows his knee,
casts his crown neath the Feet of lord and master
holding fast to heavenly plAns established eternally
thow willingly, joyfully, huMbly setting aside personal ambitions
then in reckless abandon he gIves all that he has, that he is
in harnessed power, ceaseless Love, joyous soul, he finds that through his fun
& faithful fatherhood this familY is finally made free

Note: this poem is in honor of my husband, Michael, for Father’s Day 2019.  The format is a message in the bolded capitalized letters that on a typewriter might have yielded a uniform slope, but justifying & other word-processing technicalities don’t allow for consistent spacing.  That message is FUN FAITHFUL FATHERHOOD FREES FAMILY…

What a blessing to have a husband who fears & honors the Lord, who loves me & our children, who serves us with strength, wisdom, & compassion.  I understand Father God just a little better because of the example of godly fatherhood revealed in Michael!
