June 6, 2018–26th Wedding Anniversary

Being on an extended holiday & away from my husband on the occasion of our 26th wedding anniversary this post will be a mélange of things that come to mind on life, love, & living together for our Lord…

This post ended up developing quite differently than expected, as I’m using a borrowed computer & less friendly browser than usual.  I’d hoped to include some interesting musical numbers that are nostalgic for us or reflective of marriage from this perspective of 1/4 century+ of being married…

It turned into more of a scriptural odyssey starting with a couple passages on the general aspects of love, several toward being a godly women, some about overcoming hardships (we’ve faced our share, especially in the realms of special needs parenting), a number aimed at the masculine side of marriage, quite a few interspersed addressing Christian life in general & applicable to marriage, multiple marriage focused verses, an occasional duplicate “sentiment” (usually because I liked the artistic presentation), & a couple of general thoughts that aren’t contradictory to scriptural truth.

I really hoped to find a rendition of one of the songs from our wedding but the Internet is almost blank about it (one foreign language site who heard the song in Texas in 1991–we were married in Oklahoma in 1992, & one site that quotes the lyrics)…so I’ll copy the one English post I could find way below & keep looking…

Here is a playful Amy Grant song that illustrates some of the opposites attract aspect of marriage that is nostalgic for me since a friend gave me the Heart in Motion CD around the time Michael & I married.  Ironically this friend used to tell me about her Aunt Stephanie & it turned out she was also Michael’s Aunt Stephanie even though my husband & friend hadn’t known each other!  Stephanie, who was Michael’s mother’s half sister, was married to my friend’s dad’s brother.  So her kids were first cousins to both my friend and to my husband…

The video above & the lyrics below were all copied from this site:

AMY GRANT

Good For Me Lyrics

You like to dance and listen to the music
I like to sing with the band
You like your hands splashing in the ocean
Well I like my feet on the sand

Does anybody have it any better?
Isn’t it easy to see just how well we fit together?

When I start to sing the blues
You pull out my dancing shoes
I think you could be so good for me
You get brave when I get shy
Just another reason why
I think you could be so good for me, so good

You like to drive like Mario Andretti
I like it taking my time
But let me say wherever you are going
You know it suits me just fine

Does anybody have it any better?
Isn’t it easy to see just how well we fit together?

When I start to sing the blues
You pull out my dancing shoes
I think you could be so good for me, good for me, yeah
You get brave when I get shy
Just another reason why
I think you could be so good for me

Could be so good for me
You could be so good
Could be so good
Could be so good for me

You get brave when I get shy
Another reason why
You could be so good for, good for me baby
Good for me baby

When I want to sing the blues, good for me baby
Oh, when I want to sing the blues
Good for me baby
You could be so good
Good for me baby, when I want to sing the blues
Good for me baby

Here is that promised copy of one of the songs from our wedding, found here:

https://crysaliq.livejournal.com/64009.html

the best love song I’ve heard is one by Wendy Foy and Phillip Sandifer.. called “Once In A Lifetime”.. it goes like this:

(Wendy):
Once in a lifetime.. a love like this is found..
love to last forever.. that nothing can tear down..
Once in a lifetime.. you find a love to share..
someone who is faithful.. and always will be.. there..

I knew it was once in a lifetime.. the day I met you..
cuz you touched my heart.. the way no one else could do..
and I have never known before.. a love so warm and tender..
and all of my love, I give to you..

(Phillip):
Once.. in a lifetime.. your silent dreams come true..
the one you’ve always longed for.. is sharing love with you..
Once in a lifetime.. a promise will be spoken..
between a man and a woman..
that never will be broken..

(Wendy): Never be broken..

(both together):
I knew it was once in a lifetime.. the day I met you..
cuz you touched my heart.. like no one else could do..
and I have never known before.. a love so warm and tender..
and all of my love I give to you..

(Wendy): Only by God’s grace..
(Phillip): Only by God’s grace..
(both): Is true love ours to find..
The love God brings is faithful..
it’s.. once… in a life…….time..

I knew it was once in a lifetime.. the day I met you..
cuz you touched my heart.. like no one else could do..
and I have never known before.. a love so warm and tender..
and all of my love, I give to you..

I knew it was once in a lifetime.. the day I met you..
cuz you touched my heart.. like no one else could do..
and I have never known before.. a love so warm and tender..
and all of my love, I give to you..

Well I’m running out of energy here so will wrap things up in an imperfect manner.  It’s been a pretty wild ride thus far these past 26 years.  We met & married in Oklahoma & moved to Michigan about a half year later, & have lived in 3 different communities & bought 2 houses since.  We’ve raised 4 kids & had one get married about a year ago.  If you’d like to know more about our journey maybe check out some of these posts:

Blessing to All who have travelled this way & please drop me a line if anything we’ve shared blesses you.  We’d love to hear how God might be working in your life too!

In Christ,

Valerie
